Amy K. Cherry earned her B.M. degree from the University of Illinois and her M.M. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree. She is currently an Instructor of Music at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina and Principal Trumpet with the Asheville Lyric Opera, Asheville Choral Society, and Third Trumpet with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra in Asheville, North Carolina.

Amy served as the Assistant Principal Trumpet with the Spartanburg Philharmonic Orchestra for the 2006-2007 season. She has been principal trumpet of the Brevard Chamber Orchestra, the Kingsport Symphony and the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and has performed with numerous other groups including the Monarch Brass, Summit Brass, Empire Brass, Cincinnati Opera, Winston-Salem Symphony, Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, Dayton Opera, and the Lexington Philharmonic.

During 1999, Amy served as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Hofer Symphoniker in Hof, Germany for a six-week appointment. Her trumpet instructors have included Marie Speziale, Ray Sasaki, and Dennis Edelbrock.

As an administrator Amy has worked with the Association for the Advancement of Arts Education, an organization in Cincinnati, Ohio dedicated to linking local arts groups with K-12 teachers to provide enriching arts experiences for students. She has also served as Assistant to the Director of the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute.

Amy has been on the judging panels of the National Trumpet Competition as well as serving as an adjudicator at local and state competitions. She served as the Executive Director of the International Women’s Brass Conference from 2002-2007 and is currently an IWBC board member.
