Soprano Dr. Lori McCann holds the following degrees:

  • B.M., University of Wisconsin, Madison
  • M.A., San Diego State University
  • D.M.A. and Artist Diploma, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music

Dr. McCann has performed extensively in the United States and abroad appearing in opera, oratorio, and recitals, and has been regularly featured with the Berliner Kammeroper and the Neue Opernbühne, both of Berlin, Germany.

In the U.S., she has appeared in leading roles with the Virginia Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Opera Company of Brooklyn, Whitewater Opera, Sorg opera, Shreveport Opera, and Pacific Chamber Opera.

Roles performed in the U.S. and abroad have included the Governess (Turn of the Screw), Fulvia (Ezio, Händel), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Countess (Le nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Cosí fan tutte), Mimi (La Bohème), The Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen), Giulia (La scala di seta, Rossini), Iphigénie (Iphigénie en Tauride, Gluck), Mary Warren (The Crucible, Ward), Jessie (Mahagonny-Songspiel, Weill), Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Amor (Orfeo ed Eurydice, Gluck), and others.

She has been the recipient of many awards including National Finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, first place in Opera Columbus Competition and the Virginia Hawk Young Artist Awards in San Diego, a winner of the Friedrich Shorr Memorial Performance Prize in Voice, a semi-finalist in the Belvedere International Singing competition in Vienna, third place in the Birmingham Opera Theater Competition, and fourth place in the AIMS Meistersinger Competition.

Dr. McCann is Assistant Professor of Voice at the John J. Cali School of Music of Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ. Previously, she taught on the voice faculties of the Steinhardt School-Vocal Performance Program at New York University, and Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City.

Other academic positions have included Director of Vocal Studies at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Chair of the Voice Department at the College of Mt. St. Joseph in Cincinnati, and Adjunct Vocal Instructor at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department.

She has maintained a private voice studio since 1986 in metropolitan areas including San Diego, Cincinnati, Berlin and Muenster, Germany, and currently in New York City. In the summers, in addition to teaching at th New York Summer Music Festival, she also teaches at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.

Dr. McCann has served as adjudicator for singing competitions both in the U.S. and abroad including the J.S. Bach International Competition in Leipzig, Germany, and the New York Regionals for the National Association of Teachers of Singing Artist Awards (NATSAA) Competition.

Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for both the New York City Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS-NYC), for which she is currently Vice President, and the New York Singing Teacher’s Association (NYSTA)
