SABIN

Robert
Sabin has distinguished himself on the New York music scene for
over a decade by performing in an enigmatic cross-section of
musical
genres.
He
was awarded Second Place in both the 2001 and 2003 International
Society of Bassist's Jazz Competitions, and performs regularly
in such diverse musical genres as contemporary Jazz, new music,
progressive rock, symphony orchestras, folk music, and commercial
recordings.

His
current original projects include the avant goth electric neo
jazz group "Killdozer", the cinematic acid paycheck
jazz ensemble "Brain Spray", and the opened sky, blistered
sleep trio known as "Spirit Gang."
He
is currently a member of saxophonist Alec Haavik's group, and
appears on his new CD entitled "Rocks". He also plays
new music with Naren Rauch's "LILA".
As
a bassist, Robert has appeared alongside such names as Jim McNeely,
David Liebman, Chico O'Farril, Dick Oatts, Billy Taylor, Ted
Rosenthal,
Dianna Krall, Bill Watrous, The Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, The Turtle Island String
Quartet, Steve Turre, Vince Mendoza, Roland Hanna, Giacomo Gates, Mellisa Hamilton,
Bob Mintzer, Carl Fontana, and Ernie Watts.
As
an educator, he is the conductor/director of the Hunter College
High
School Jazz Ensembles, and accompanied them during their 2003 tour of Spain,
which included performances in Barcelona, Valencia, and Escorial.
He
is also currently on the faculty of Teachers College/Columbia
University in New York
City. Sabin is currently jazz coordinator for the New York Summer Music Festival,
conducting and teaching alongside world-class artists from such prestigious
organizations as The Philadelphia Orchestra, Village Vanguard Jazz Orchestra,
Curtis Institute, and Manhattan School of Music.
Robert
Sabin was a 1998 Recipient of a fellowship from the Henry Mancini
Institute to
perform with the HMI Concert
Jazz Ensemble, Studio Orchestra, and Jazz Combo, with performances at the
Hollywood Bowl, Disneyland, Playboy Mansion, and Carpenter
Center in Long beach, CA. |
