Jason Rigby > Jazz Saxophone
Tenor saxophonist Jason Rigby has been making a strong name for himself in NYC over the past few years, most notably for his work in the bands led by bassist Cameron Brown, drummer Mark Guiliana and drummer/composer Jeff Davis.
Rigby is known for his compelling inside-outside style of improvising – that being both rooted in tradition as well as pushing the boundaries of modern style, which critics call “bold and adventurous.”
His is a modern voice with power, possessing a deep and compelling sound, and his improvising is consistently engaging and displays intrigue and creative resourcefulness.
DownBeat: “Rigby’s burly tenor tone and searching improvisations recall the expressionistic flights of Ornette Coleman and and Joe Henderson.”
The Village Voice: :[Rigby’s] quintet sustains a daunting finesse while swinging full tilt on the new The Sage.”
